Sometimes potential clients ask what I like most about coaching. (I love to answer this question, by the way.) I respond that it is a joy to help coachees become aware of how gifted and creative they are and to strategize with them about how to put their wisdom, experiences, and resources to even greater use in service to their values and vocation. It is extra delightful to do this work with clergywomen, who are incorrectly and harmfully told way too often either that they don’t belong in the pastoral role or that they need to lead in ways inauthentic to them.
In the process of coaching, I gain so much knowledge about the challenges of and possibilities in ministry. That learning thrills my Enneagram 5-ness! Because I talk with a lot of pastors, I often hear themes emerge across many of my coaching conversations. When that happens, I want to process the resonances. I do this by writing, and publishing my thoughts holds me accountable to reflecting on ministry. That’s why I have posted weekly ever since I began coaching 11 years ago. My hope is that readers glean something from what I am noticing and naming.
Last year I moved my articles from a blog page on my website to Substack. I did so with the intention of participating in more of a writing community. July 2023 was the soft launch, when I started posting here and on my blog. At the beginning of October 2023, I began publishing only here. (All blog entries dating back to 2013 are still available on my website.) That means this Substack is now officially a year old! I am offering a subscription sale in celebration. Get 50% off of a year of Living Liminally by clicking here. Paid subscribers get at least one bonus post per month that is exclusive to them. Examples of past bonus posts include a downloadable resource of small steps into improve your wellbeing, discount codes for resources, and an article about what your church would be freed up to do if it didn't have as many building-related concerns.
This subscription sale goes through the end of the month.
Please know that whether you are a one-time or weekly reader, free or paying subscriber, I greatly appreciate that you spend a few minutes of your time reading what I have written. In such a busy world, your time and attention mean a lot to me.
